Krate Creative Space puts an original wartime musical on a Melaka stage for two nights only. Tears Under the Rising Sun plays Panggung Seri at JKKN Melaka at 8pm on Saturday 14 November and Sunday 15 November 2026. CloudJoi is selling the seats. This is a Melaka company telling a Melaka Occupation story, written here, staged here.

A Nyonya household in occupied Melaka

The CloudJoi listing sets the musical in Japanese-occupied Melaka. A young Nyonya's household takes in a stranger. The copy frames love, sacrifice, and the choices people make in a war. Krate wrote it with Persatuan Peranakan Cina Melaka. MOTAC, the Peranakan association, and JKKN Melaka are named as supporters. Original songs sit on traditional instrumentation.

The show header lists English, Bahasa Malaysia, Japanese, and Hokkien. The Good to Know note on the same page narrows that to English with Peranakan lingo and light Japanese woven through. Treat the header as the language mix you might hear, and the note as how much of each. Wee Shyre May is billed as writer and director. Elijah Skye, Kimberly Chan, and Janey Shairan lead the named cast, with Terrell Wu, Karam Tabba, Francis Augustine Soosay, Amir Ise, and Na'im Azmi also listed.

Krate is the same Melaka house that staged A Chef's Confession on Heeren Street earlier in 2026, plus Mawar Putih, Mawar Merah in 2025 and The Best Nyonya Musical. The listing is careful to say this one is a live musical, not their usual immersive role-play. You sit in numbered seats and watch. You do not wander the set with a character.

Tickets, time, and the lines that disagree

Student and children tickets are RM88. Standard is RM108. VIP is RM208, limited, with a gift, a private photo, a meet and greet, a Q&A with the writer-director, and a possible backstage look. Students need an IC or student pass at the door. Buy the wrong tier and they will top you up to standard on the night. CloudJoi adds fees at checkout. Tickets are non-refundable and transferable. Buy on CloudJoi. Resale is not allowed.

The header says 120 minutes with a 20-minute interval. The same page's Good to Know says about two hours with a 15-minute interval. The about block prints 8pm to 10pm with intermission. Doors open 30 minutes before. Plan to be in the seat before 8pm and out around 10pm.

Age is also split. The header recommends 12 and above. Good to Know says all ages if a guardian comes, then warns that wartime scenes run dark. Dress is listed as Traditional at the top, then smart casual or traditional encouraged in the house rules. No food or drink in the hall. No video. Photos only if they do not interrupt. Phones on silent.

Getting to JKKN Melaka

Kompleks Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara sits on Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Taman Budaya Negeri Melaka, 75450. CloudJoi's venue note puts it just off the Ayer Keroh toll, next to the nearest Petronas. That is Ayer Keroh, not Bandar Hilir. Budget a Grab from Dutch Square rather than a walk. Parking is on site. Arrive early for a bay.

If you are coming from out of town, Philea Resort & Spa is offering 20 percent off a Pavilion Room with code KRATE20 for stays from 12 to 17 November 2026, booked direct at philea.com.my by 17 November. Krate's WhatsApp is +6018-2235311. Email kratedotmy@gmail.com.

Panggung Seri has hosted Malay epics and new work for more than two decades. A WWII Peranakan musical with JKKN and MOTAC on the poster is a rare billing for this complex. Two nights. Then it is gone.
