Jonker hours, 鸡场街时间
The market listing at /markets/jonker-walk and the street page at /streets/jalan-hang-jebat cannot hold both jobs: what is open Monday to Thursday, and when cars leave the heritage core. This page is the weekly clock.

What actually opens
Monday to Thursday, Jalan Hang Jebat is a working heritage street. Kopitiam, tart shops, and antique rooms open on their own clocks. The night-market stalls are not there. TourismMelaka's own page only lists the Friday to Sunday 18:00 to midnight window. Treat anything else as a shop habit, not a council roster.
Friday from 18:00 the street becomes the night market. Food takes the carriageway. Antiques stay in the shophouses behind. TourismMelaka says arrive 18:00 to 19:00 if you want to walk without a crush. After 20:00 it is shoulder to shoulder. Cash still rules most food stalls. Grab is jammed by 20:00.
Saturday and Sunday repeat the same 18:00 to midnight market. Saturday daytime is still the tart-and-antique hours, then the barriers stay up all day because of the car-free zone. Sunday the market ends at midnight and cars return after that.
When the street closes to cars
Still true on 8 November 2026. TourismMelaka's driving page lists a continuous 54-hour car-free window: Friday closes at 18:00, Saturday is closed all day, Sunday reopens at midnight. The Star on 2 November 2026, covering the Melaka polls, described the same hours. Introduced August 2023. Traders still argue about it. Pakatan said it would review the scheme. Until MBMB posts a new gazette, plan as if the barriers go up.
Streets named on the TourismMelaka driving page:
- Jalan Istana
- Jalan Mahkamah
- Jalan Gereja and Lorong Gereja
- Jalan Laksamana
- Parts of Jalan Tun Khalil Yaakob and Jalan Merdeka
Park at Mahkota Parade or Dataran Pahlawan and walk. If your hotel sits inside the zone, drop bags before 17:00 Friday. Confirm with the desk. You will not drive out again until midnight Sunday. Trishaws keep the run of those streets after 18:00.
